It’s years of human history, or, as I put it in a recent book, really years, because you can’t really separate out the religion’s Jewish and Greek heritage. It also involves the entire world now, apart (officially) from Saudi Arabia and North Korea. Gnosticism (from Ancient Greek: γνωστικός gnōstikós, Koine Greek: [ˈkos], "having knowledge") is a collection of ancient religious ideas and systems which originated in the first century AD among early Christian and Jewish sects. These various groups emphasised personal spiritual knowledge over orthodox teachings, traditions, and the authority of the church.
